(Annapolis, MD) – A persistent investigation by Maryland State Police into the hit and run death of an Anne Arundel County man this past weekend on Route 50 has led to the identification of the type of vehicle that may have been involved.
Forensic examination of vehicle debris found at the scene has identified the probable suspect vehicle as a white, 1992 – 1999 Pontiac Bonneville. The vehicle involved is likely missing a passenger side mirror, or has had one repaired since October 28, 2007, when the fatal hit and run occurred. The vehicle may have damage to other areas, including the windshield and or hood, but that has not been confirmed at this time.
At about 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 28, 2007, a Maryland Transportation Authority bridge maintenance worker found the body of a man, later identified as John C. Moreland, 25, of Severna Park, lying under the guardrail on westbound Rt. 50, just east of the exit for St. Margaret’s Road. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicated Moreland was attending a party with friends at a house in Cape St. Claire. At about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Moreland left the party on foot wearing a dark shirt and blue jeans. As he walked along Rt. 50, Moreland was struck and killed by an unknown driver and unidentified vehicle.
