WHO MAY APPLY
Maryland residents who are not engaged in the business of selling firearms for profit wishing to dispose of a private collection of regulated firearms from a table or fixed display at a gun show.
HOW TO APPLY
Utilizing the form(s) provided below for initial application, answer all questions accurately, completely and honestly by typing or clearly printing responses in ink. Attach all documentation required and clarifications you feel may assist investigators in processing your application. Too much is better than too little.
MAIL (FIRST CLASS MAIL OR CERTIFIED MAIL) THE APPLICATION PACKET TO THE LICENSING DIVISION AT THE ADDRESS PROVIDED ABOVE SO THAT THE PACKET IS RECEIVED BY THE STATE POLICE A MINIMUM OF 10 BUSINESS DAYS BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF THE GUN SHOW TO BE ATTENDED.
If there is no reason to disapprove the application, the Temporary Transfer Permit shall be issued and forwarded to the applicant within seven (7) days of the date of application.
COST TO APPLY
The initial permit application shall have attached to it a non-refundable check or money order payable to the Department of State Police in the amount of $10.00.
Fees must be paid by check or money order made payable to the Maryland State Police. Checks must be drawn on active accounts with sufficient funds. If the check is returned for insufficient funds or due to a closed account, the applicant will be required to pay for future requests of the Licensing Division by cashier’s check or money order and the application will be disapproved.
APPLICATION PROCESSINGUpon receipt of the application, and all required documents and information, a review of the application packet will begin. Those applications determined to be incomplete, inaccurate and/or with purposeful omissions will be returned to the sender. A criminal investigation of the applicant and/or submitter may be initiated if false information is supplied. Returned applications are not considered received by the Licensing Division until they are returned satisfactorily completed with the necessary attachments and fees.
A background investigation will be initiated on those applications accurately submitted in their entirety. The date the background is initiated depends on the accuracy, truthfulness, and completeness of the submission. The Maryland State Police will investigate the character, reputation, and qualifications of each applicant.
The State Police shall conduct a computer generated criminal history background investigation of the applicant to determine if the applicant is prohibited by State or federal law from purchasing or possessing a regulated firearm or if the applicant is engaged in the business of selling firearms for profit.
Applicants found to be prohibited by State or federal law from purchasing or possessing a regulated firearm, or is engaged in the business, the application shall be disapproved.
Upon completion of the investigation, the Maryland State Police will evaluate the information provided and issue permits appropriately.
Do not call the Maryland State Police regarding the status of your application unless you have not received notification within the legislative timeframe.
PERIOD OF PERMIT
The Temporary Transfer Permit is active for the declared period of the Gun Show.
CHANGE OF ADDRESS
It is the Permit holder’s responsibility to ensure the Licensing Division is notified of address or name changes in writing.
There is no fee to change information maintained by the Licensing Division. E-Mail notifications are not accepted and you may not receive a confirmation of receipt for change of information.
CHECKLIST – FOLLOW ALONG AND YOU WON'T GO WRONG
The Maryland State Police Temporary Transfer Permit can be obtained by submitting the application provided below to the Secretary of the Maryland Department of State Police.
Completed, legible and accurate State of Maryland Temporary Transfer Permit Applications will be accompanied upon submission by:
1. A check or money order for $10.00 made payable to the Department of State Police drown on an active account with sufficient funds;

IMPORTANT NOTES
The Temporary Transfer Permit shall be prominently displayed in public view as part of any display.
A sale or transfer of a regulated firearm from a table or fixed display at a gun show shall comply with the provisions of Public Safety Article, Title 5, Subtitle 1, Annotated Code of Maryland, and regulation 29.03. .06, and .08 -.11, Code of Maryland Regulations.
