Barrack Information:

A call from the Massachusetts State Police advised that a subject wanted in
connection with a homicide was in a stolen vehicle southbound on I-95 (the information
was obtained through a Lojack hit). Troopers stopped the vehicle near Route 175 and
arrested the suspect who was later extradited back to Massachusetts on murder
charges. Most of the metro barracks have experienced a large number of older model
cars being stolen off the interstate after becoming disabled. During one morning rush
hour troopers observed a roll back preparing to hook up a car, and when the driver was
approached by troopers he tried to leave. The vehicle owner arrived and advised he had
not requested the tow; the suspect was charged with auto theft. Other arrests for the
year include 58 for CDS, 199 for DUI, and 195 warrant arrests.
The Department of Corrections Hagerstown had a subject passing bad checks in
Howard County, and the investigation revealed a former inmate had used a working
fund release check to make up counterfeit checks in his name. The suspect used the
account to buy three cars, pay traffic fines, register the stolen vehicles, and pay phone
bills. The accused and accomplices were arrested and convicted in Howard County on
the bad check charge, and other cases are pending in Baltimore County. In total, the
suspect took more than $150,000 from the Department of Corrections checking
account.
