Barrack Information:
|
The full-service barrack provides police services to Washington County, which,
with a population of over 140,000, is beginning to mirror the counties to the east as it is
becoming a bedroom community. Troopers handled 532 Part I (more serious) crimes,
an 18% increase over 2005. One incident involved the capture of an inmate charged
with murdering a correctional officer. In another case the arrest of an adult and his
juvenile accomplice, who committed a string of 12 burglaries, led to the recovery of a
large amount of property, which was returned to its owners.
Traffic in the county has increased drastically the past few years and congestion
is a daily problem. Troopers patrolled 276 miles of roadways, conducted 969 collision
investigations, and handled 999 collisions that did not require a report. A subject was
arrested in February and charged with manslaughter and numerous other counts
relating to a fatal, alcohol related, motor vehicle collision. He was convicted and
sentenced to ten years with five years suspended. Troopers conducted four sobriety
checkpoints, and made six DUI arrests, one CDS arrest, and one arrest for a weapons
violation as a result.
