Barrack Information: Traffic enforcement by troopers resulted in 17,011 citations, 9,249 warnings, 1,604 safety equipment repair orders being issued, and 389 arrests for DUI. There were 541 apprehensions for various criminal infractions, another 548 for outstanding warrants, and 348 for CDS violations. The joint operation between the Department and the Sheriff’s Office, the St. Mary’s County Bureau of Investigation, conducted 643 criminal investigations and had a 93% closure rate.

One of the notable criminal cases involved armed robberies in the Charlotte Hall area. While a trooper was conducting follow up interviews for one robbery, a 911 call was received for another in progress. After a chase, and with the assistance of the Sheriff’s Office, the suspect was taken into custody. A loaded handgun and money were recovered. Other crimes included thefts from a cash machine in a restaurant, a shooting at a bar, and a cold case homicide. Suspects were arrested in all three cases.

Fingerprinting Info: In order to have a "background check" or "police clearance" completed by the Maryland State Police, you must appear in person at a Maryland State Police Barrack. At that time you must present a valid, government-issued, photo identification and a check or money order for $5.00 for each fingerprint card required (usually two are required). You will then have your fingerprints taken and those fingerprints will be checked against state and local databases. You will receive a response to our inquiry within a few weeks.
