| Barrack Information: |
Through traffic enforcement initiatives the number of vehicle collision
investigations was reduced by 5% in 2006. However, the barrack’s arrest ratio was
increased, from 47 % to 57%. Around 37% of the collisions involved some degree of
injury, and 12.5 % were alcohol related. Fatalities remained at three investigations, and
the three fatalities all involved driver error as the causative factor, none were alcohol
related. Two of the deaths were the result of improper or failure to be restrained in
occupant protection devices. A charter bus carrying children from a West Virginia
elementary school was in a collision in March; fortunately none of their injuries was life
threatening. A post-crash inspection of the bus was conducted by inspectors from the
Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division and brake failure was found to be a
contributing factor of the crash. A trooper responded to an industrial accident at a coal mine in February. It involved the death of an employee who was crushed between two locomotives hauling mining materials, and was later ruled an accident. In a domestic shooting, the suspect fled with the victim’s two year old child. During an extensive search of the region, the child was found unharmed, alone in the vehicle. The suspect was found and arrested without incident, and the victim’s injuries were non-life threatening. Two other cases of attempted murder, that also involved firearms, were resolved with the apprehension of suspects. |
